All Phobias can be successfully treated with Hypnotherapy. Traditionally, you, the client, are made to re-live the traumatic events that caused the phobia, many times until you 'wear out' that fear. This seldom works and is, of itself, traumatic. In hypnotherapy, when a client wishes to change something about themselves, they are encouraged to imagine a future where that change has happened; this sets up a new mind-set that includes the new ability, by practicing, rehearsing, the new ability. Clearly, rehearsing a past trauma is only going to set it deeper into the psyche, not remove it. I use the rewind principle. I do not need you to tell me any details of the event, or go through it in detail again yourself. The session takes one to two hours and is usually enough to cure the fear. Some traumatic events cause secondary traumas; rape, for instance will involve two or three more events; giving a statement to the police, giving evidence in court, and telling relatives about it. It may be that the secondary events will need separate treatment, but in most cases, one treatment is sufficient. Some phobias are 'inherited' - they are learned from parents or friends and relatives. If your mother was scared of spiders, there is a good chance you will be, too. These phobias respond well to the rewind method, too. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Obsessive-compulsive Disorder (OCD) are both linked to phobia and also respond well to Rewind. This is a major area of my work which is not suitable for CD treatment. Each case is individual and can only successfully be treated on a personal basis. Please contact me directly if you need this service.
