Modern Hypnotherapy is Amazing!

HYPNOTHERAPY

If you’ve never tried Hypnotherapy, you will be amazed at what it can do for you! A surprising number of complaints are rooted in the subconscious - it’s a way of telling you to ease off. Phobias and Depression are amongst the worst of them, and drugs do little for most sufferers. Most headaches are stress related, many conditions such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome can be, too. And any bad habits - such as smoking or overeating have the subconscious as their driving force. That is where Hypnotherapy works; in the subconscious. The therapist talks to that part of your mind and persuades it, in a way that you can’t, to change the way you do things.

For some things, it will be necessary to get a doctor’s referral, indeed, you should always discuss your symptoms with a doctor first.

HYPNOSIS

Hypnosis is a way of speaking directly to the subconscious mind. It is perfectly safe and natural and doesn't need to be a mystical or religious thing.

In fact, we go in and out of the ‘trance’ state, perhaps 50 times a day. When you are reading or watching TV, so caught up in the action that you don’t hear someone else in the room speak to you. Or when, driving along a route you know well, you arrive and can’t remember most of the journey. These are typical natural trances.

We 'live' in our conscious mind, and imagine that it is in control of everything. It actually can only hold 7 to 9 threads of thought, and only concentrate on one at a time. The subconscious doesn’t seem to have any limit on the number of threads it can deal with simultaneously.

In fact, the conscious mind is only about 12% of the mind, and the rest of it is the subconscious. Imagine a large soap bubble with, attached to it, a very small bubble. Where they join, they share a 'skin'. Now the conscious mind – the small bubble – will be constantly working on a few problems. To solve these problems, it refers to the subconscious, passing the information through that shared skin. The subconscious will tell it what has been done about these problems or situations in the past and the conscious mind will then, usually, use the same method to deal with it now. This happens so rapidly that you are not aware of it.

The subconscious mind, while supplying all this information to the conscious is also running patterns … whenever you decide to walk across a room, the instruction is passed to the subconscious which runs the walking pattern – a sequence of muscle actions which will walk you from A to B. When you sit down to read, the subconscious runs an incredibly complex pattern recognition programme, enabling you to recognise the printed word (handwriting is even more complex) in real time; some people can read faster than they talk.

There are many other patterns the subconscious uses for you; any skill you have learned is stored in the subconscious so as to keep the conscious mind free when you are doing these things, in order to guide the process.

Driving, running, swimming, talking, using power tools, cooking, dancing, all those things which you struggled to learn, which you had to concentrate on so hard when you first did them but now are ‘second nature’. These are all learned abilities that the subconscious operates for you. If you want to test this; try consciously walking across a room – that is, think about each and every action and consciously move the muscle that makes it happen. Have a friend with you to catch you when you fall!

What has this to do with hypnosis?

Because the subconscious controls so much of what we do, the conscious mind has very little real control over our lives. So, to make big changes, it is easier to talk directly to the subconscious than to talk to the conscious mind in the hope that the message will get passed on and accepted.

A hypnotherapist can access the subconscious directly, and knows how to talk to it in such a way that the subconscious will understand. He or she can persuade it to accept beneficial suggestions but anything which goes against what the subconscious sees as ‘normal’ behaviour will be rejected. You can’t be made to do anything you don’t want to. I can help you to give up smoking if you want to, but if you don’t, there’s nothing I can do about it.

How do stage hypnotists manage to make people imitate chickens or do the River Dance? Easy; they pick people who would do it anyway, if they had an excuse! Usually it is a few drinks, but this time they can blame the hypnotist. Ask yourself; who else would volunteer to go up on stage, knowing what stage hypnotists do?

A hypnotist can’t make you do anything you don’t want to.

Long before I qualified, I decided that, as the techniques are so powerful and the need so great for help in stopping smoking, for weight control and so many confidence related issues, that I would offer my services in the client's home rather than make them attend a clinic, and to reach even more people, I would create a series of CDs to address as many issues as practical. For smoking, weight loss or relaxation, go to the CD Shop for a cost-effective solution. Phobias, OCD and PTSD need a more personal treatment as every case is different.

As you explore this site you will discover many of these services. If you need more information please don't hesitate to contact me.
